If you are straightening your smile with the help of Invisalign®, congratulations for going the extra mile to create a healthier, more beautiful smile. Today, our dental team would like to share some helpful tips for caring for your aligners properly as you transform your smile. Let’s take a look!

— When you take out your aligner each day for a thorough cleaning, the first thing you want to do is rinse it carefully. The goal is to wash away saliva residue from your appliance.

— Place the aligner in a cup of cleaner. You can use Invisalign’s cleaning crystals or even denture cleaner for the soak. At this stage, you are removing any plaque build up on the appliance.

— Next, before replacing the aligner onto your pearly whites, take a couple of minutes to do a deep cleaning on your smile first. Brush, floss and rinse with an antibacterial mouth wash. The goal here is to remove any bacteria hiding between the teeth. If bacteria stays in your aligner and teeth while you wear it, your tooth enamel will be at risk.

— To keep your aligner fresh throughout the day, you can rinse it with clear antibacterial soap. Just be sure to rinse any soapy residue off before placing it back into your mouth.
