The Halloween season is in full swing so it is important to make sure you’re enjoying yourself while at the same time keeping your smile safe. You can have a wonderful season without putting your teeth and gums at risk around every turn. There are always important tricks to do that can help care for your teeth without sacrificing the fun of the holiday season.
One of the biggest risks that arise with your health care during Halloween is due to the excessive amount of sugary candies that lie around after the season is over. If you’re not careful, you can end up eating your candies for weeks after. To prevent this, dispose of any extra candy lying around after Halloween. If you have children, you can swap out their candy for toys as a sort of buyback program to help prevent them from eating an excessive amount. You can even do this after they are done trick or treating so they can still enjoy the fun that comes with collecting the candy without the hazards that come from eating buckets of candy. Aside from toys, you can also exchange their candy for money or other incentives.
If you do decide to eat a few sugary sweets and treats this season, be sure to remember to keep your teeth clean. This includes brushing twice daily and flossing at least once daily. Furthermore, it is important to visit your dentist for routine checkups and bi-annual professional cleanings. However, exercise caution with all hard products that can easily chip and crack your teeth, including hard candy and popcorn balls. As long as you take care of your smile this season, it can last to enjoy many more seasons to come.
